Every book you read transports you to a different world. And if you are addicted to reading, you will most likely live more than one thousand lives!
From the very first page of a book, you move to a different place with people (yet unknown), but who will be like old friends by the time you read the last page!
Today you can be an adventurer on a treasure hunt in Egypt. Exploring the pyramids for hidden archaeological treasures. All the time trying to stay a step ahead of the wealthy collector who will stop at nothing to have another treasure to brag about.
Or looking for the Secret Sunken City of Atlantis! Having to use all your wit and limited resources against various government (or even criminal) agencies. Those who will stop at nothing to grab this powerful, ancient secret weapon from you to use for their not-so-good purposes!
Tomorrow again, you can experience the danger and terror of being a soldier at war. Flinching at a bullet whizzing past your ear or ducking for cover when a hand grenade explodes nearby. Or running through a hail of enemy fire to rescue a buddy that has been wounded. Until you finally, tired, and weary, arrive safely back at camp – counting the many lives lost that day!
You wake up with your heart beating in your throat. What was that sound? Ghost-like images writhing against the wall reminding you of the weird creature you (imagine) you saw earlier when you went for a quick hike through the woods. The isolation you’ve treasured upon arrival, now not such a big advantage anymore.
Why do my knees go like jelly every time I see him? Even though he is incredibly handsome, his arrogance is enough to put any woman off. Bertus again is a man after any women’s heart. Not that good-looking, but a real gentleman with all the qualities a woman needs in a to-be husband. Why couldn’t I have fallen in love with Bertus instead, my heart cries within me!
Martie looks down at the horrible sight. You can see this was a crime of passion. The murderer hacking away with a blunt knife in a murderous frenzy. On first look few clues to go on. She sighs. This is going to be one of those challenging cases to solve. But with the victim a well-known actor, the media will once again constantly breathe in her neck for answers…
The golden shepherd lifts its head and looks at the girl in the wheelchair. He slowly moves closer and licks at the salty tears running down her face. She drops her hand and softly scratches him between his ears. And the pain caused by the teasing of the cruel kids eases a bit because she had finally found a friend who comforts her when she cries.
So many books, so many lives.
Which life will you choose today?
Hi! I am Susan
Welcome to my adventure
Why Read or Rot?
I have started reading at the age of four. I can remember how I often read under the covers with a flashlight when I was supposed to sleep.
During my early school years, we visited the library once a week. I couldn’t pick out my new book fast enough! By the end of the period, I would have finished it already, leaving me with nothing to read for the rest of the week!
Growing up, Fridays was the highlight of my week. Dad would pack the whole family into the car, and off we go! You guessed right – to the library! We were a family of readers.
In my adult years, I’ve developed a variety of interests like technology, photography, gardening and even writing. But reading was and will always be a part of my life!
Reading for me is like breathing. If I cannot read, my soul will quietly rot away…
